Fans of Glee finally got to see the eagerly-awaited Super Bowl advert yesterday.

The stars of the hit high school singing show appeared in the commercial for American car maker Chevrolet.

It featured a Busby Berkeley production with Lea Michelle singing 'See the USA in your Chevrolet'.

The tune was a homage to the 1950s Chevy commercials when singer Dinah Shore made the jingle famous.

The advert appeared directly after the Super Bowl when FOX aired the latest episode of the popular show.

Initial thoughts on Munchak's introduction

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Quick initial impressions on Mike Munchak’s introductory news conference before I circle back to flesh out some themes:

I thought he came across very well in roughly 45 minutes, and while this wasn’t a hire made to win the news conference, I give him an A. He was prepared and presidential, well spoken, light at the right moments, clearly set forth his plan and made it clear this is a fresh start for all in the building.

He thinks his job is primarily three things: to give direction, to manage things and to get out of the way so people can do their jobs.

He said he knows what the Titans are doing well and what needs to change.

He said there is personnel in the building that the team can win with, citing the team’s 5-2 start to 2011.

He said a lot depends on the quarterback who comes in, and said the Vince Young issue has been dealt with.

He ranks preparation as the number one thing. He never wants his team to say, “What do we do now?” He also talked about being disciplined, smart, fast and physical.

As he starts to put together a staff, he said everything is open. Thirteen assistants are under contract and he’s expected to stay within a reasonable budget, but team executives said he’s got the freedom to select his staff. He said it amounts to putting together a puzzle with staff harmony an important ingredient. “Anything is open, we’re starting fresh, it’s not the same old, same old,” he said.

He’s had thoughts about things in the past that, as an assistant, he did not share publicly.

He cited his college coach, Joe Paterno, as his biggest influence.

He doesn’t think not having been a coordinator is a deficit. “I don’t think I am lacking anything other than experience,” he said.

If a chunk of the NFL offseason or season are erased by a lockout, he wants “the coaches to do the adjusting and let the players come in and play.”

Players don’t know him in this role. “For most people in the building, it’s a fresh, new experience,” he said. “It’s up to us to keep it that way.”

He wants to be as involved in personnel decisions as he can be, but will lean on people who know more than he does when he can.

His tenure with the organization got his foot in the door with Bud Adams, but he had to prove worthy to get hired.

More to come.

Christina Aguilera flubs "Star Spangled Banner" lyrics at the Super Bowl

Anne Lu – Celebrity News Service Contributor

Arlington, TX, United States (CNS) – Christina Aguilera keeps on fumbling her comeback move. After her critically-panned, albeit Golden Globe-nominated, film acting debut on “Burlesque” and mediocre sales on her album “Bionic,” the 30-year-old’s soulful rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” was marred when she jumbled the national anthem’s lines at the Super Bowl XLV.

Aguilera seemed to be too concerned in belting out high notes during the highly watched gig that she fumbled on the song’s lyrics in front of live audience on Sunday.

She has left out the line “O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming” and combined the song’s second line instead with “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming.”

The singer released a statement, obtained by eonline.com, saying, “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”

To be fair to the Grammy Award winner, she sang the song beautifully and has been not shown any indication that she confused the lines. And besides, no one can argue that her rendition is way better than Roseanne Barr’s during the 1990 baseball game between the San Diego Padres and Cincinnati Reds at the Jack Murphy Stadium.

Sledge hockey debut in Amherstburg brings positive reviews

AMHERSTBURG — Sledge hockey was played at the United Communities Credit Union Complex Saturday afternoon and early reviews are positive.

The Essex-Kent Ice Bullets held a scrimmage at the new complex and that was the first of four Saturdays this month where the organization will hold activities in Amherstburg. Ken Grant, member of the complex's steering committee, said Saturday was a trial run for both players, coaches and rink attendants.

"The feedback from parents and players has been very positive," said Grant.

Grant said representatives from the sledge hockey organization enjoyed being part of the process in designing and building the complex.

"They appreciated us going to them at the beginning stages of the designing and planning because it allows them to use the rink to its full capacity," said Grant.

The complex was designed to there was synthetic ice that could be laid in the benches, penalty boxes and hallways leading to the dressing room allowing for easier access. The bench doors are also lower to the ice surface and the boards along the benches and penalty boxes feature clear glass so that players can see out during the game.

"This is incredible," said Derek Whitson, of the complex.

Whitson, also a member of the national sledge hockey team, said such a facility helps players in their sport.

"This helps out our sport 100 per cent," said Whitson. "This one is by far one of the best."

Corbin Watson, another team member who is also a national team member, was also impressed with the United Communities Credit Union Complex.

"It's fantastic to see this facility," said Watson.

Watson said the new complex "compares really well" to some of the others he has played at. The MasterCard Centre in Toronto is one of the better facilities for sledge hockey he has played at but the United Communities Credit Union Complex is in the same league.

"This is right there with it," said Watson.

Ivan Petkovic, a coach with the junior Ice Bullets team, was impressed with the complex as well. His son Trajan is also a sledge hockey player.

"It's amazing," he said. "It saves me a lot of lifting, which I appreciate."

Petkovic said at some rinks, a lot of time is spent lifting players and their sleds in and out of benches and penalty boxes but with the design of the United Communities Credit Union Complex, it allows for more time to be focused on hockey. He added most players want as much independence as possible and being able to do things for themselves helps their confidence.

"We want to play hockey. We don't want to battle getting on the ice and getting off the ice," said Petkovic.

Petkovic, an Amherstburg resident, said the complex is the best he has seen in his four years of being involved with sledge hockey. Trudy Blanchard, a Chatham native, said only the venue at the Paralympics in Vancouver topped the Amherstburg complex in her ten years of being around sledge hockey.

The 10 Best 2011 Super Bowl Ads: Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Osbourne

Every year, millions of viewers tune in to the Super Bowl to not only hope to see a good game, but to also tune in and enjoy some of the commercials that advertisers produce and dish out millions of dollars to the network airing the big game that year. This year was no different with the Snickers, Brisk, Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne commercials getting some of the most buzz.

In no particular order, here’s is a list of what we thought was the best commercials at this year’s 2011 Super Bowl game, which aired on FOX on February 6, 2011.

(1) Volkswagen: Volkswagen has two commercials, a one-minute spot featuring a little kid dressed as Darth Vader, and a 30-second ad for the 2012 Beetle, featuring the “Black Beetle” character rocking out to Jon Spencer Blues Explosion’s “Black Betty.” (click here to view the ad)

(2) Brisk Iced Tea: This commercial features a lesson from Ozzy Osbourne on “how to be normal.” (click here to view the ad)

(10) Beer!: Anheuser-”Clydesdale”-Busch – the Super Bowl’s only beer advertiser.

Marquis Daniels to miss at least a month

BOSTON — Celtics swingman Marquis Daniels suffered a bruised spinal cord yesterday and will be sidelined for quite awhile.

“A month, two months,” Danny Ainge, Celtics president of basketball operations, guessed. “It’ll be a month anyway.”

Early in the second quarter of a 91-80 victory over Orlando at the Garden, Daniels drove baseline and hit his head against the shoulder of Magic guard Gilbert Arenas. Daniels immediately fell face-first on the court and lay motionless.

After a 4-1/2-minute delay, Daniels gave a thumbs-up sign as he was carried off on a stretcher. Dr. Brian McKeon, the Celtics’ team doctor, said Daniels bruised his spinal cord, but had not suffered a concussion.

Ainge visited Daniels at New England Baptist Hospital at halftime and said Daniels could move his arms and legs. Daniels even asked for an update of the score.

“He had talked with his wife and with his mother,” Ainge said. “He was fine.”

McKeon said Daniels’ neck injury was similar to but a little worse than the concussion he suffered in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals last May against Orlando. Daniels will undergo CT scans and an MRI today.

Daniels’ history of spinal cord trouble extends further back than last year.

“He’s had that since he was at birth,” Rajon Rondo said.

The sight of Daniels on the floor shocked his teammates.

“Those moments really don’t happen in basketball,” Rondo said. “Once maybe every two or three years. I think T.J. Ford (with Milwaukee seven years ago) had something similar, but that’s not common really in basketball.”

Marquis Daniels Suffers Neck Injury, Taken to Hospital

Keeping Quis in our thoughts and prayers.

During the second quarter of Sunday's game against the Magic, Marquis Daniels made a crossover move on the Magic's Gilbert Arenas and caught his neck on Arenas' chest. He immediately hit the floor face down and lay ther motionless.

As the Garden crowd grew eerily silent, a stretcher was pulled out to take Quis away. Before being taken away, Quis gave everyone in the crowd something they had been hoping for -- a sign. With a thumbs up, Quis was on his way to New England Baptist Hospital.

There's no more word on it from there, but Celtics report that Quis was conscious and talking on his way there. And obviously the fact that he could give the thumbs up was a huge sign.

More to come as we hear it.

Honored During Super Bowl Telecast

Giunta_crop_340x234

Salvator Guinta Recognized at Super Bowl XLV for Distinguished Award.

Salvatore Giunta, 25, received the nation's highest military honor, the Medal of Honor, in September by President Barack Obama.

On Sunday during the Super Bowl telecast, Giunta was introduced as the first living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War.

As described in a White House report:

When an insurgent force ambush split Specialist Giunta's squad into two groups, he exposed himself to enemy fire to pull a comrade back to cover. Later, while engaging the enemy and attempting to link up with the rest of his squad, Specialist Giunta noticed two insurgents carrying away a fellow soldier. He immediately engaged the enemy, killing one and wounding the other, and provided medical aid to his wounded comrade while the rest of his squad caught up and provided security . His courage and leadership while under extreme enemy fire were integral to his platoon's ability defeat an enemy ambush and recover a fellow American paratrooper from enemy hands.

Six service members had reportedly been awarded the Medal of Honor since September 2001, all posthumously, before Giunta received the award.

Giunta's actions in a life-or-death scenario demonstrate that while the Super Bowl is one of the biggest events in America every year, the game is trivial compared to the whole scope of things in life.

Giunta's actions are more important than any Super Bowl MVP's could ever be.

Slash would consider GNR reunion, but Axl would have to apologise

Slash

Slash says he would consider rejoining Guns N Roses if Axl Rose called him up and apologised for past whatevers, though the guitarist admitted himself that’s not very likely to happen.

Asked whether he’d ever consider working with Axl again by the LA Daily News, Slash said: “All things considered, that would be a call I would be surprised to get. If that really happened, I would have to clean out my junk drawer, too, but I don’t see it happening. But if it did happen, I would do whatever it takes to at least have a conversation about it”.

Axl would probably also have to pledge to become a little bit more reliable on the showing up for gigs on time front. That’s something Slash seems to rate highly and, he says, something even Ozzy Osbourne, who the guitarist is currently supporting on tour, can get right.

He added: “I guess you could say I’ve worked with some high maintenance singers, but Ozzy is one of the most professional people I’ve ever met. Even back in the day, when he was out of control, one thing you could always count on with Ozzy was he would do the gig. It was never an issue. I can deal with all the craziness in the world as long as you do your gig”.

GoDaddy.co Gets Ready and Network Solutions Piggybacks

We’re just hours away from Go Daddy’s Super Bowl commercials and a huge plug for the .co domain.

I really have no idea who the GoDaddy.co girl is. My guess is it’s not someone from Colombia, but that’s about all I have at this point.

I’m thinking that Go Daddy might not actually show who the .co girl is on the TV commercial and instead send viewers to their web site to see the revealing. This would be classic Go Daddy style to drive web traffic.

As for the non-.co Go Daddy commercial, DOMAINfest attendees like myself got to view the entire “web only” version during Bob Parson’s keynote at the event last week.

Competitor Network Solutions is piggybacking on the Go Daddy commercials by releasing a web video called “Go Granny” to spoof the Go Daddy ads. (Network Solutions’ banner ads about the “commercial” have been following me around the web all day).

While this will certainly get them some nice media attention, the video itself falls flat. I stopped watching it after 30 seconds. If you have the patience to watch all four minutes of it then perhaps you’ll get more out of it.

Super Bowl Commercials 2011 - New GoDaddy.co Girl Intrigues Viewers (Video)

This year's Super Bowl commercials for 2011 included the always enticing GoDaddy ads featuring the hot female spokeswomen, including "Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels and NASCAR babe Danica Patrick.

In this year's spot, it was the GoDaddy.co girl becoming the brand new smoking hot spokeswoman for the hottest domain name going online!

It appears the internet is buzzing over the GoDaddy Super Bowl commercials which aired during tonight's game. NY Times reported on tonight's commercials and said of the internet company's ads:

"One commercial served up the usual GoDaddy sexist schlock, suggesting the “GoDaddy Girls,” as its pitchwomen are demeaningly known, were naked. The other was better, or less worse..."

Over at GoDaddy, fans can see the original versions of tonight's Super Bowl ads or the exclusive "internet-only" versions. This has been a very popular technique used by GoDaddy.co in the past to drive more customers to their website, and hopefully gain more sign-ups in the process. GoDaddy sells web domain names as well as hosting and other internet services. Sorry, folks, Danica Patrick and Jillian Michaels won't be included with a domain name, though.

GoDaddy's ad was one of many that had fans glued to their seats during Sunday's Super Bowl XLV intermissions. Other ads included the popular Darth Vader Volkswagen commercial and commercials by Doritos, Anheuser-Busch and Pepsi Max.

So, who is the new GoDaddy.co girl? It's none other than the hot blond in the GoDaddy advertisement in the video below!

What did you think of GoDaddy's ads? Clever or lacking class?

Roger Staubach: Cowboys Legend Tops Off Day of Quarterbacks

96411842_crop_340x234

Roger Staubach Just One Of Many Legendary Arms in Attendance

The day started with Bart Starr, it ended with Roger Staubach and Aaron Rodgers got us there. There were two underlying these to Super Bowl XLV, winning and quarterbacks.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr was highlighted before the game. The memories of past Green Bay victories were brought back to the forefront. Then Aaron Rodgers took over.

He delighted us with four quarters of nearly perfect football. He was precise with his passes and vocal with his leadership. His performance hearkened back the the days when quarterbacks put their teams on their shoulders.

Injuries or defenses could not squander his drive to win. This was his day to be immortalized.

The day ended with Roger Staubach. A fitting end to a day that was all about the man under center. He was more than a great quarterback. He was a great quarterback when it mattered. That is what makes a Hall of Famer, a Hall of Famer with a Super Bowl win. Staubach has two.

So the events traversed the great lengths of the NFL nation. We started in Green Bay and ended in Dallas. The quarterback is the most important position for a reason. They always have the ball in their hands.

The difference is that these guys did something special when they released it.

Super Bowl 2011 halftime: Black Eyed Peas sing 'Where Is the Love?' for Obama, 'Sweet Child of Mine'

Will.i.am and Fergie took the stage for a rousing halftime performance at the Super Bowl Sunday.
Kravitz/FilmMagic
Will.i.am and Fergie took the stage for a rousing halftime performance at the Super Bowl Sunday.

While Christina Aguilera flubbed her lines by mistake, Super Bowl performers the Black Eyed Peas fudged the lyrics to one of their halftime songs on purpose.

The quartet descended from the top of the football stadium on individual platforms and sang a medley of "I Gotta Feeling," "Boom Boom Pow," "Pump It," "Get It Started," "Time of My Life" and a new version of "Where Is the Love?" featuring a message to President Obama.

Singing against a backdrop of glow-in-the-dark words that spelled out "love," will.i.am changed the words to the hit song in order to include a plea for Bam's help to improve the nation.

"In America we need to get things straight/Obama let's get these kids educated/Create jobs so the country stays stimulated/This is dedicated to all the innovators," he sang.

The Peas' performance lit up the field in the middle of the game, with Fergie appearing nervous as she descended onto the stage on her tiny platform. Her boyfriend, Josh Duhamel, revealed on Saturday at DirecTV's Celebrity Beach Bowl that she was nervous about the stunt.

"I know in the beginning there's something she's kind of nervous about," he said.

Fergie's stilettos shifted around as she descended and her mike did take a moment to kick in at the start of their set, but then it was a smooth ride from there, with each song given Olympic-style choreography involving swathes of dancers in neon suits forming arrows and hearts.

Taboo's suit was the most intricate, lighting up across his chest and his legs, but Fergie helped light up the stage as well with illuminated sparkly football shoulder pads.

Halfway through the Peas' performance, Slash emerged from the bottom of the stage to play a solo of Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine," with Fergie singing the lyrics.

This was followed by a white-clad Usher descending from the top of the stadium on a chain to perform a highly choreographed duet of "OMG," which featured will.i.am.

"so watch ya'll think of that!!!??? " Usher tweeted after his segment.

The Black Eyed Peas concluded the show with a performance of "Time of My Life."

Prior to taking the stage, will.i.am revealed he would be updating Twitter throughout the performance.

"I played 1mil people in brazil, the world cup for 1bil," he tweeted, "And I'm so nervous for the superbowl. 'I feel like crying' this is so special for us."

Though he only ended up tweeting a few times during the show, band mate apl.de.ap was all too happy to fill in the pauses.

"My haircut for the superbowl halftime show!yep yep," he tweeted at one point with a photo of the back of his head, which bared the words BEP XLV shaved into his head.

Black Eyed Peas Halftime Show Brings Sweet Child Of Mine To Super Bowl

This evening the Black Eyed Peas teamed up RnB singer Usher and rocker Slash to entertain the millions of people who tuned in to watch the Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 31-25 during the half time celebrations of Super Bowl 45th which was held at the Cowboys Stadium located in Arlington, Texas Sunday.

While Christina Aguilera missed few notes while singing the national anthem, the Peas composed of Will.i.am, Fergie, Taboo, and apl.de.ap were able to put on a fine show during the halftime with the help of some sparkly back up dancers.

The pop/urban group rocked the stage as they performed some of their hit songs which included “I Gotta Feeling,” “Boom Boom Pow,” “Pump It,” “Let’s Get It Started,” “Where Is the Love?” and “The Time (Dirty Bit).”

Later on Usher “descended from the heavens” in a futuristic costume to sing his latest hit “OMG” and proved to the audience that he still has it by doing some very impressive dance moves.

Fergie joined Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash for a pretty shaky version of “Sweet Child o’ Mine” .

Detroit's homegrown rapper Eminem -- with his Oscar-winning hit, "Lose Yourself," thumping in the background -- will pitch the new Chrysler 200 in a two-minute commercial airing during the Super Bowl.

The Chrysler 200 replaces the Chrysler Sebring midsize car, arguably the most maligned vehicle to ever come out of Auburn Hills.

Chrysler needs the 200 to be a success in order to be a player in the vital midsize car segment. Midsize cars made up 15% of the 11.6 million new vehicles sold in 2010.

In the ad, Chrysler will sell itself as an upscale brand, asking: "What does a town that's been to hell and back know about luxury?"

After giving Detroit's street cred on the issue, Eminem appears in the ad, at the Fox Theatre, and declares that this is "what we do" in the Motor City.

Chrysler would not confirm Eminem would appear in the ad or say which vehicle would be promoted. In addition, a Claymation version of Eminem will appear in a Lipton Brisk Iced Tea commercial during the Super Bowl.

On Friday, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne hinted about the automaker's commercial: "I won't tell you what it's about, but it will be worth watching."

Marchionne, who spoke at a San Francisco event associated with the National Automobile Dealers Association's annual convention, said Chrysler spent less than $9 million on the ad.

Last year, Chrysler was the only Detroit automaker to advertise during the Super Bowl. This year, GM and Chrysler will air spots during the game, and Ford during the pre-game.

Christina Aguilera Flubs National Anthem

If you thought that the most notable off-field Super Bowl talking point would be the adverts, think again.

Christina Aguilera has admitted that she messed up a line of the national anthem before the 45th Super Bowl kicked off in Arlington, Texas Sunday night. The 30-year-old singer should have sung, "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?" but instead repeated an earlier line with a slight variation of, "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming."

As social networks began to buzz, Aguilera put out a statement. "I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through,"she said.

If it makes Aguilera feel any better today, she's not the first to come unstuck when belting out the Star Spangled Banner at a football game. Ten years ago, Macy Gray was booed for an off-kilter rendition at the Pro Football Hall of Fame exhibition game in Canton, Ohio, which is also her home state. And just this past December in Kansas City, before the Chiefs took on the Denver Broncos, Mike Eli of the Eli Young Band had such a nightmare that he actually had to start over.

Aguilera would probably do well to dwell on those less fortunate as you'd imagine that, somewhere right now, Janet Jackson is wishing that all she'd revealed back in the Super Bowl halftime show of 2004 was an inability to sing all the words in the right order. (via BBC)
