S-word firm on the move

The little company that dared to use the "S" word in its logo is poised to move after meeting with its landlords.

Elizabeth Taylor Graphics opened a branch in Wellington's Cable Car Lane two months ago but its landlords ordered the company to change its logo byline, "Posters, Signs and Shit," after complaints from other people and retailers.

The company, which hails from Paraparaumu, was reluctant to give up the fight, arguing that it had had the logo for 12 years and hardly anyone had complained.

But after a meeting on Wednesday, manager Tim Beere said it seemed likely that his firm would leave.

"It does seem as though the difficulties between us seem to be insurmountable."

Mr Beere said the property manager had offered to release the company without penalty from its lease, and would give it a chance to find alternative premises in the central city.

Tensions had been high and leaving made sense.

"I think we've probably decided that today."

However, Mr Beere said the public response to their situation had been huge.

The company had been deluged with emails of support, even from Australia, and an informal poll on their website showed most visitors liked the logo.

"We put a wee questionnaire, `love it' or `hate it' or `couldn't care less' ... and the overwhelming response is, `loved it'."
